Choosing glasses so they suit your face shape and personal style

Whether you're a glasses wearer or not you can apply these exact same tips to sunglasses so this article is still relevant.

I like choosing new glasses. I get excited. As a dramatic style personality I like to make a statement with them. I understand the importance, as a glasses wearer, that you are happy with your choice. Especially if you need to wear them all the time. They need to suit you; your colouring, face shape, features and personality all need to be taken into consideration. There are so many styles to choose from it’s difficult to know where to start.

I often get asked about how to choose glasses, so I thought I’d share a few tips to help you next time you need a new pair. It really can make a massive difference to your image and speaks volumes about your Style Personality.

Tips to consider when choosing your next pair of glasses

• Always choose to suit your colouring. A good tip is to replicate the colour of your eyes, cheeks or lips.
• Choose silver frames or cool colours if your skin has cool undertones (pinkish hue).
• Gold, tortoiseshell or warm colours if you have warm, peachy undertones to your skin.
• Think about the type of clothes you like to wear; do you prefer bright or muted colours in your wardrobe? Your specs will look better if they are harmonious.
• Also, consider light or dark frames, when you try them on are you wearing them or is the frame wearing you? If you have delicate, pretty features and light hair, a pair of black, heavy framed glasses would be far too overpowering
• Ideally, the edge of the frame should be lined up so the temple(arms) goes to your ears at a right angle; not stretched out, which will make your head appear small nor angled in which makes your head appear large.
• If you have a wide face choose a light, less noticeable temple, narrower faces can wear heavy or more ornate ones.
• If your face is long, consider a deeper frame. For a short face consider shallower frames, rimless or half rim.
• Mirror your natural face shape, consider your jawline and nose.
• If you have a rounder face with soft features go for curved, rounded frames.
• Angular features look best with straight angular frames.
• Ideally, the edge of the frame should be lined up so the temple(arms) goes to your ears at a right angle; not stretched out, which will make your head appear small nor angled in which makes your head appear large.
• Aim for your pupils to sit centrally within the lenses.
• Consider the top bar; a raised top bar can create a youthful appearance whereas a sloping top bar can make your eyes appear droopy.
• Decide whether you prefer your eyebrows above or below the frames and echo their shape on the top bar. Rimless styles are good if your brows are uneven.
• A heavy, yet narrow bridge will make the eyes appear closer together.
• A light, wide bridge will make the eyes appear further apart.
• A high bridge will elongate your nose. A lower bridge will make it appear shorter.
• Your glasses need to reflect your style personality and be appropriate for your lifestyle.

Your glasses are saying something about your personality

Think about your glasses being like an accessory, if you wear them all the time, they need to fit all occasions and really reflect and say something about who you are.
